Some may find the prospect of working in a foreign country a little daunting, but Brit believes it has both benefited her professionally and given her a stronger personality.

"I think working abroad is always good for your career as you see things from a different angle," she says. "I got a lot of support from Carlsberg – from language training before I went to a lovely apartment, parking space and even home internet connection all organised for me on my arrival.  And I always knew whom to contact if I had any problems."

Happy and lucky

Brit had been working as a bank clerk before studying for a Social Sciences & Economics degree.  She wrote her thesis at Carlsberg Germany, and was invited to stay on and join the Graduate programme.  "I was very happy and lucky to be offered the opportunity," she says.

Her first role was as a finance trainee in Germany, working mainly with the marketing controller. Then, for her second year, she was assigned to the sales controlling department in Finland.

"The Finnish culture was similar, and the work was challenging and very interesting," she says.  "One of my main projects was working with an external soft drinks supplier, so I also got to experience their way of doing business.  The co-operation was very new, so it was up to me to decide how things should be done, which was great."

Curious and open-minded

Brit has now returned to Carlsberg Germany to take up the position of marketing & finance controller.

"I’d recommend the international experience," she says.  "You just need to be curious and open-minded.  Your skills will grow with every task you are given and you will learn more about business than you ever thought."
