The Carlsberg Foundation established The Carlsberg Bequest as a tribute to the founder JC Jacobsen in 1938, 50 years after it took over the Old Carlsberg Brewery.
It aims to support practical, socially beneficial activities, particularly in connection with science. Since its establishment, the Bequest has granted around DKK 250 million in current value to more than 6,500 large and small projects within all areas of society. It currently makes awards totalling DKK 4 million every year to around 200 recipients throughout Denmark.
