Carlsberg was first exported into China more than 130 years ago, and Chinese bars served the first Carlsberg Export back in the late 1890s.

The Carlsberg Brewery in Hong Kong, which was started in 1978 and inaugurated in 1981, became the base for Carlsberg’s expansion into mainland China.

In 1995, Carlsberg acquired a major shareholding in a brewery in Huizhou, southern China and moved all production from Hong Kong in 1999.  The Carlsberg Brewery Guangdong in Huizhou now supplies China, Hong Kong and the Macau markets and also produces its own local “Dragon 8” brand.

After 2000, Carlsberg accelerated the acquisition of shareholdings in Chinese breweries, concentrating on Western China.  Today we have full ownership of or joint ventures in 20 breweries in seven Chinese provinces.
