The Irish drink more beer per person than almost anybody in the world - and nearly 75% of it is consumed in pubs.
Carlsberg has been sold in Ireland since 1955 and is one of the most popular lager brands in pubs. Despite fiercer competition and the generally declining beer market, Carlsberg has maintained its market share and remains the third largest lager brand.
Carlsberg is brewed under licence by Guinness, Ireland's largest brewery and part of the Diageo group. Guinness has significantly increased its level of activities and resources over the past year in order to further strengthen the Carlsberg brand.
Tuborg was successfully introduced to the Irish market in 2003 and has become one of the leading lager brands in the off-trade sector.
