Ringnes is Norway’s leading beverage company producing beer, water and soft drinks.
The company was founded in 1876 by two brothers – Amund and Ellef Ringnes. Today, Ringnes has five production plants and its main brewery, just outside Oslo, is one of the most modern in Europe. The other breweries are located in Trondheim (the former E C Dahl Brewery), Arendal (formerly Arendal Brewery), Larvik (formerly Farrisfabrikken) and Imsdal (formerly Imsdalfabrikken).
Carlsberg acquired the sole ownership of Ringnes in 2004.
Despite a decline in prices, increased competition and over-capacity, Ringnes has fought the competition and sustained a market share of more than 52%. As an innovative company which is constantly evaluating the market opportunities, Ringnes has taken advantage of the trends in water, sugar-free soft drinks and non-alcoholic beer - a range of products which has enjoyed incredible growth over the past year.

DID YOU KNOW THAT ..?
- The excise duty on alcoholic drinks is extremely high in Norway
- Norway has a ban on any kind of advertising for alcohol
- The right to use the Olympic rings in the marketing of Vørter beer was sold by Frydenlund Brewery to Norway’s Olympic committee in 1970 for NKR 1.00. However Ringnes is still allowed to use the Olympic rings on the Vørter beer bottle
