Carlsberg has been imported into Singapore since the early 20th century. Initially it came all the way from Denmark, but today most of the beer sold by Carlsberg Singapore is sourced from the Carlsberg brewery in Malaysia – a trip of about 300 km.
Carlsberg Singapore is a wholly owned sales and marketing company which has succeeded in growing the Carlsberg brand’s market share from around 10% in the 1990s to more than 25% today.
