Carlsberg UK is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Carlsberg Group and the UK’s fourth largest brewer.  It has breweries in Leeds and Northampton, where Carlsberg has been brewed since 1973.

Carlsberg has been one of the UK’s leading lager brands since its introduction to the British beer market in 1868.  Its innovative advertising, famous straplines and sponsorship of football from grass roots to international level have made it a household name.

The merger of Carlsberg and Allied Lyons brewing activities in 1992 brought the Tetley’s brand into the Carlsberg portfolio. Tetley’s has been synonymous with the brewing of high quality ales for almost two centuries and the brand is well established as the beer of rugby.

Although beer is a favourite alcoholic drink in the UK, the beer market is in decline.

DID YOU KNOW THAT ..?

  • Carlsberg’s Northampton brewery was awarded the Financial Times Industrial Architecture Award in 1975. The brewery was designed by the Danish architect Knud Munk in the form of a Danish longship.
  • The slogan “Probably the best lager in the world” was created in Northampton back in the 1980s.  After changing “lager” to “beer”, Carlsberg has been using the slogan world-wide for many years.
  • The Carlsberg Group is sponsor of the England football team, Liverpool Football Club and the FA Cup, and is a founding partner of the new Wembley stadium.
