In June 2006, Carlsberg invested in
a new brewery in Tashkent, Uzbekistan,
together with the local partner Sarbast Plus.
In July 2007 the brewery started shipments of its first local brand, “Sarbast”, meaning “free or independent” in ancient Uzbek.
Uzbekistan has a population of 27 million, a growing economy and an increasing level of beer consumption, currently around 10 litres per person per year. The domestic beer market has developed positively over the past few years and we believe it has the potential to grow strongly in future.
The initial planned capacity of the plant is one million hectolitres per annum, with the potential to double the capacity by the end of 2008.
All production processes are fully automatic, and the quality control system has been designed and installed by a specialist team. The equipment was provided by leading manufacturers.
