In Ukraine Carlsberg has more than 2000 employees in Slavutich Breweries (in Kiev and Zaporizhiya) and Lvivska Brewery in Lviv. The Kiev brewery was started as a green field project and opened in 2004. Zhaporyzia Brewery was acquired in 1996 and Lvivska Brewery in 1998. 

The Ukrainian beer market is the second largest in the CIS, the former Soviet Union, and has still a great deal of undeveloped potential. From 1998 to 2004 the Ukrainian beer market grew by 17% in total.

Since 1998 the consumption of beer per capita has also been increasing, and in 2007 it reached 61 L. Compared to neighboring countries, this is relatively small figure and considerable further increase is still expected.

In 2007 the beer marked increased by 19,4%. At the same time our sales rose by 37% and our market share increased by 20,4%.

In the premium segment Carlsberg Group brands Tuborg and Baltika has taken the number one and two position. After the successful re-launch of the main local brand Slavutich in 2007 sales increased by +125% and Slavutich became brand number four by volume on the Ukrainian market.

 

KEY DATES

1996 BBH starts to work with JSC Slavutich Beer and Non-alcoholic Beverages Enterprise in Zaporizhiya and the history of BBH Group in Ukraine began.
1998 Slavutich (Zaporizhiya) launches Slavutich as its first local brand.
1999 the Contract of cooperation between BBH and JSC Lvivska Brewery (Lvov, Western Ukraine) was signed.
2000 Slavutich Beer and Non-alcoholic Beverages Enterprise got the exclusive license agreement to produce Pepsi, Mirinda and 7Up.
2001 Slavutich starts production of Tuborg.
2004 Slavutich Brewery site is built in Kiev.
2007 Holsten was introduced to the Ukranian market.
2008 Carlsberg becomes the 100% owner of the BBH Group Ukraine.
2008 Launch of the Group's first non-beer product Kvass Taras
