Carl Jacobsen was a co-founder of the Association for the Beautification of the Capital.  The Stork Fountain, designed by Vilhelm Bissen and Edvard Petersen, was the winner of a competition run and funded by the Association in 1894.  Its reward was a very prominent position on Amager Torv in the centre of Copenhagen.
