The Russian beer market is one of the largest in the world. In 2014 total volume of the Russian beer market was 77 million hectolitres making it fifth largest beer market in the world (Euromonitor).

According to the Russian Brewers' Union there are now more than 600 breweries in the country. More than 80% of the Russian beer market is held by four key players: Baltika Breweries (Carlsberg Group), SUN InBev, Heineken and Efes.

Baltika Breweries was established in Saint Petersburg in 1990. State-of-the-art equipment and application of advanced technologies allowed production of highest quality products owing to which the company has been No. 1 on the Russian beer market since 1996.

Today Baltika Breweries, part of the Carlsberg Group, is:

  • one of the largest companies in Russia in the sphere of consumer goods production;
  • the leader of the Russian beer market with the share of about 34,7%;
  • producer of Baltika brand being No. 1 in terms of sales in Europe (Euromonitor, 2014);
  • breweries of the aggregate capacity of about 40 mln. hl of beer per year in 8 cities of Russia: in Saint Petersburg, Yaroslavl, Tula, Voronezh, Rostov-on-Don, Samara, Khabarovsk, Novosibirsk;
  • two own malthouses and agricultural project;
  • about 7,600 employees;
  • a major Russian exporter of the products making about 50% of the entire Russian beer export,  available in more than 75 countries of the world, including Western Europe, North America and Asian Pacific region.



1990: Baltika Brewery founded

1992: Baltika became part of a joint venture owned 50% by Carlsberg
2006: Merger with brewing companies Vena, Pikra and Yarpivo was completed

2008: Baltika Breweries is owned 88.86% by the Carlsberg Group

2012: Carlsberg Group increases shareholding in Baltika Breweries to 100%
