The Poretti brewery in Varese, Northern Italy, produced its first brew on 26th December 1877. Birra Poretti was officially launched one year later, in 1878.
The brewery's founder, Angelo Poretti, was one of the pioneers of Italian brewing. He introduced Italy to the brewing methods of Northern Europe which he learned during his many travels. In recognition of his contribution to brewing in his homeland, Angelo Poretti became President of the Permanent Committee of Italian Brewers in 1884.
In 2001 Birra Poretti was re-launched by Carlsberg Italia, using much of the brand’s original identity. It was brought to the UK in 2006.
