Svyturys Ekstra was created in 1995 to become the flagship of the Svyturys beer family. Whenever a new kind of beer has been brewed at the Svyturys brewery in Lithuania, it has been tradition that all employees have been involved in developing the new beer by tasting and commenting on what they liked and disliked about it.
When the first batch of Svyturys Ekstra was presented to the employees it received many contradicting comments. Some thought it was too bitter, others thought it was not bitter enough. Some wanted it thicker, other found it too light. Some proposed to exclude aromatic hops, others wanted to increase the aroma and use a different kind of yeast. However, everyone agreed that the new Ekstra beer had to be improved!
The brew masters where overwhelmed by the amount of comments and their differences. In the end they gave up on the feedback and decided to brew the second batch exactly like the first. Of course, everyone decided; "now the new beer is much better".
Svyturys Ekstra is a beautiful golden coloured beer. When you pour it, it has a perfect thick white head, and when you drink it you'll experience an intense aroma and long lasting flavour. Ekstra has won many prestigious beer awards, and is the Lithuanians favourite beer (according to a survey by A. C. Nielsen).
