At Carlsberg, we understand that as we grow we are presented with dilemmas across our operations – such as increased water consumption energy use and carbon emissions and how to responsible consumption of our products.  Our approach to CSR helps us to tackle these dilemmas.

To help us achieve responsible growth, we have established CSR as a Group-wide strategic initiative. This means that we look at CSR in each part of our value chain and strive to make CSR an integrated part of how we work – from how we run our own operations to our relationship with suppliers and interaction with our consumers. We see this as crucial to our business success. At Carlsberg, we believe that we are stronger together and therefore involve our employees and engage with our partners to create benefits for ourselves and the societies in which we operate.

A new approach

In 2008, we initiated a common worldwide strategy. This allows us to manage our responsibilities within a more structured and efficient framework while maintaining flexibility to meet the local needs of our operating companies. Our operating companies are located in many countries and face different dilemmas. Our Group-wide approach assists our local companies to integrate CSR in their daily businesses and our CSR policies ensure that we adopt the same standards wherever we work. To manage this new approach we have established a CSR steering committee, made up of senior managers from key functions within our organisation, and a central CSR unit, based in Copenhagen, to coordinate and to advise on the Group strategy. They are, in turn, supported by a network of local CSR champions who make sure our CSR work is relevant to our local operations and push initiatives forward. Read more on our CSR management.

In May 2008, we became a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact. This commits us to supporting and advancing the Global Compact’s ten principles in the areas of human rights, labour practices, environment and anti-corruption. Read more on the Global Compact.

We strongly believe that the creation of value is at the heart of all good business – value for our shareholders, value for our employees and partners and, ultimately, the creation of value for the societies that support us and enable us to exist.

The strength and success of our company, now and in the future, will be measured on how hard we work to ensure that we grow:

In a fast way, but also in a responsible way.
