During the summer of 2009, as part of an EU- European Social Fund initiative, the State Labor Inspection Authority in Latvia, which regulates labor relations in the private sector, launched a campaign in order to draw attention to the most diligent and socially responsible employers in the country. Under the banner of "Safer Tomorrow", employees from different companies in Latvia could vote for the employer they believed was most responsible.
With over 100 companies participating in the campaign, Aldaris was voted as one of the top five most socially responsible and diligent employers in Latvia. Voting criteria covered areas such as legal employment, the work environment and safety, the employer's approach to social responsibility and efforts made to protect employees.
Aldaris is already well known in Latvia for being a reliable company, and one that offers a stable working environment for its employees. No internal campaigns were carried out to encourage employees from Aldaris to vote; employees voluntarily chose to do so, which is one of the reasons why the results are so pleasing.
High score for employee engagement
Furthermore, the Latvian labor market has recently undergone numerous reforms and legislative changes. Therefore, for Aldaris to receive an award which acknowledges the brewery as a responsible employer, not only demonstrates the high level of employee engagement within the company, but also the trust the employees place in the company, despite the recent economic crises. The high level of employee engagement was also demonstrated in the Employee Attitude Survey which the Carlsberg Group undertakes biannually, where employee engagement in Aldaris increased significantly from the previous survey.
The award is a testament to the efforts Aldaris, as part of the Carlsberg Group, has made in order to be a good partner for both internal and external customers. It also reinforced the employees' perception of the company as a responsible employer, and gave them an added sense of security, something that is important during these turbulent times.
The management of Aldaris says "Being a socially responsible employer has always been one of our key priorities. For us, it is something that we almost take for granted, as it is so inbuilt into our day-to-day operations. Despite this, it is always nice to receive public recognition".
