In April 2010 Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetković and the Minister for Environment and Spatial Planning, Oliver Dulić opened a new Waste Water Treatment System at Carlsberg Srbija's Čelarevo site. In his speech to the guests, Prime Minister Cvetković underlined that by opening the new system, Carlsberg improves the production process and provides a high level of environmental protection.
The new Waste Water Treatment System (WWTP) represents the continuation of the company’s care for environmental protection. As one of the key prerequisites for successful business operations, environmental protection is one of the most significant business postulates of the company. With this project, Carlsberg Srbija confirms the fact that it has set long-term plans with CSR, environmental protection and care for the local community where it operates as priorities.
The plant is a result of several-year investments. Continuous development includes modernization of production process, but a complementary element of successful operations is a resolute approach to social responsibility.
Several conditions had to be fulfilled before start up of waste water treatment plant including the intelligent of a sewage separation system, a new product waste management system and a reduction of water consumption from 6.8 to 5.0 hl/hl
Biogas generation
The WWTP is state-of-the-art, something that is underlined by the installment of a biogas capture system. Biogas, which is generated during the treatment process, is captured through a recovery system which allows the biogas to be re-used for energy production in the brewing process. As a result, greenhouse gas emissions coming from the brewing operations are reduced.
This project reflects the company's strong focus on environmental protection. Carlsberg Srbija invests significant effort and resources in preventing any negative influence on the environment.
“This is a very important moment for our company," Aleksandar Radosavljević, CEO of Carlsberg Serbia states, and continues "It is a result of several years' investments. Continuous development includes modernization of production process, but a complementary element of successful operations is a resolute approach to social responsibility. Therefore, environmental protection has been one of our primary concerns since the launch of operations in Serbia
