REDUCING THE RISKS OF DRINK DRIVING

The initiative is aimed at young people aged 18-30 and involves interactive education in pubs, clubs and discos where specially trained animators inform people about the idea of a designated driver. They encourage people to choose one sober person to drive friends home or use taxi cabs with special discounts or night buses.

EDUCATING YOUNG PEOPLE

The program also uses special goggles and tests that demonstrate the impact alcohol misuse can have on a driver’s ability. Random police controls and breathalyzer tests further reinforce the campaign’s objectives.

To date, the program has been carried out in 7 cities across Poland. Almost 65,000 people have participated actively and over 6,000 volunteers have been chosen as designated drivers.

COOPERATION WIH LOCAL AUTHORITES

Thanks to the cooperation of the National Police, the National Road Safety Council and local authorities with the Brewing Union, the HoReCa  designated driver club has been a nationwide success and is now an ongoing project in Poland.

In 2008 the campaign went online at  www.klubdrivera.pl, where existing members are encouraged to get their friend to join up.
