SUPPORT FOR THE SCIENCE OLYMPICS

At a ceremony held at our museum in Copenhagen, Carlsberg´s Mindelegat foundation awarded over 350,000 DKK to the 25 students who will be participating in the event. The donation was handed over by the Minister of Education Bertel Haarder and the chairman of the Carlsberg´s Mindelegat, Professor Povl Krogsgaard-Larsen.

TO A HIGHER STANDARD

Now in its sixth consecutive year, the foundation supports Danish participation in the Science Olympics which take place each year around the world.. Hundreds of young people from different nationalities compete at high school level in all science subjects at levels considerably higher than they would encounter in the course of their normal education.

This year the Olympics will be held in Japan for biology, Bulgaria (computer science), Germany (mathematics), England (chemistry) and Mexico (physics).

THE EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME

“Participation in an international Science Olympics is an experience of a lifetime” said Niels Hartling, co-organizer of the Danish participation. “The requirements are very high – the tests require an understanding of the big picture and of a major curriculum beyond the normal Danish curriculum in high school.”

At Carlsberg, we operate a program of community engagement in Denmark and other countries where we work. Promoting education activities for young people is an important part of that program.
