Carlsberg Polska became the main sponsor of the Polish Woodstock Festival (Przystanek Woodstock) in August 2011. There are now engaged not only in sponsorship and beer sale, but also in the social and environment programme of the festival. The social program includes the EURO-like football championship UEFA, trophy exhibition, the story of Carlsberg and the CSR agenda on packaging. While the environmental programme is comprised of an eco-zone, which was a place for the 'Give trash a chance' campaign and the collection area for empty plastic and glass bottles, and cans. This area was supported by live glass workshops.
The workshops consisted of glass blowing performances, an exhibition on 'the story of the beer bottle and beer can,' as well as a poster campaign on responsible consumer behavior in relation to beer packaging.
The festival
The Festival has been held every year since 1995, and since 2009 in Kostrzyn nad Odrą in Western Poland. The Polish Woodstock Festival is now one of the biggest open air rock music festivals in Europe. The event was developed by Jurek Owsiak, who is an icon in Poland for music-for-charity. This year's festival attracted on average 400.000 visitors, whereas the festival's last concert peaked with some 700.000 people.
Carlsberg employees volunteer
During the festival, the can and bottle collection campaign attracted around 30.000 festival-guests who brought in 5,5 tons of beer bottles and cans (100.000 beer cups and 240.000 cans - approximately 1/3 of sales volume). All of these plastic mugs and cans were recycled. Carlsberg Polska gave away 21.000 Carlsberg gadgets such as corn-made pens, raincoats, solar led lights, and cane mats. The eco-zone was run on a voluntary basis by Carlsberg employees and their entrance fee was donated to the festival charity organisation.
A packaging recycling and anti-litter scheme at sponsored music events is an integral part of the CSR agenda at Carlsberg Polska. We believe that encouraging consumers to recycle and avoid littering, in a fun and rewarding way, is an important contribution effort for the Group's goal of reducing our environmental footprint as a beer company.
