Support for volunteers working with young people

The key operation of the charity is a chain of Walker Cafeterias that welcome and give support to all young people but especially those suffering from alcohol, drug or substance abuse.

The importance of communication

Following the belief that zero tolerance should not stop you communicating with a young person, the charity relies on a team of trained adult volunteers who are funded by Sinebrychoff. The job of the volunteers is to go out into the streets where young people gather such as railway or bus stations and offer them wellness and soft drinks, instead of alcohol.

Until recently, a major obstacle for the charity was the lack of adult volunteers in youth work. Sinebrychoff’s donations over the last five years have ensured the organization now has a permanent program to educate and motivate the volunteers.

In five years, over 500 adults have attended the training program to become professionals of youth work.  With these volunteers, thousands of young people have been contacted on the streets and in the Walker Cafeterias where our products are served for free.

Motivation for the future

The success of the charity has gained the support  of the President of Finland, Tarja Halonen who has become a guardian of the newest campaign “Veterans of youth”,  to recruit even more volunteers.

Our funding also ensures that new education programs are provided to keep the volunteers motivated. The achievements and results of the “Children of the Station” charity are continually evaluated to find the best solutions for the future and we form part of that advisory board.

Community engagement and social responsibility form a critical part of Carlsberg corporate strategy. By supporting charities we are supporting the communities we work in.
