At Carlsberg, we are proud of what we produce and we want you to enjoy our products at their best. To help you enjoy our beer, here are some additional tips on drinking responsibly.

  • Avoid binge drinking

Drinking a little every day is beneficial to most people, but drinking the same amount on only a few occasions, such as over the weekend can be problematic. The issue of binge drinking has led us to participate in projects and initiatives which highlight its dangers.

  • Never drink beer if you are going to drive

The dangers and consequences of drink driving are clearly established. Drinking any alcohol and driving can lead to death on the road, imprisonment and broken lives. Our recommendation is simple: If you drink, don’t drive. Get someone else to do it. We are currently developing and implementing initiatives to reduce the risks of drink driving such as our Designated Driver Campaign from Serbia.

  • Avoid drinking beer if you are pregnant or trying to conceive

Excessive alcohol consumption can harm unborn babies and all medical evidence suggests it is sensible not to drink any alcohol during pregnancy. Alcohol can also effect a woman’s ability to conceive and if consumed excessively can lead to a reduction of healthy sperm.

  • Avoid drinking beer if you are taking medicine or other drugs

As with all alcoholic drinks, mixing beer with medicine or other drugs can interfere with their effectiveness or alter their chemical balance.

  • Avoid drinking if you are operating machinery or other dangerous equipment

If misused, alcohol can slow reaction times or lead to unnecessary risk taking. It is always best to avoid alcohol consumption when operating machinery or other dangerous equipment.

  • Drink in company

It is advisable not to drink beer if you are alone. Beer can reinforce the mood you are in. So if you’re feeling lonely, drinking too much beer will only add to your sense of loneliness.

  • Avoid drinking if you are taking part in a sports event

We recommend you do not drink any beer on the day before you are participating in a sporting event or taking part in strenuous activity. Likewise, it is not advisable to drink beer too soon after exercise as your body may need water to replace lost bodily fluids.

  • If you haven’t had a beer all week...

...do not try to catch up on lost time in one evening Binge drinking is a serious health risk. The effect of alcohol on you may be more noticeable if you haven’t had alcohol for some time.

  • Eat a bit, drink a bit

It is never a good idea to drink beer on an empty stomach. Even a small snack or a tapas before or while you are drinking will help slow the body’s absorption of alcohol.

  • Know your strength

The alcohol content of beer can vary depending on the product. Most beers contain about 5% of volume (a.b.v) but some special beers may contain up to 7% a.b.v or even more. The alcohol content of beer is always marked on the label or on the can. Check it, especially at social events.

  • Mix with friends, not with drinks

Drinking beer is a pleasure in itself. But always be aware that mixing beer with other alcoholic drinks can quickly increase the rate of alcohol in your body. If you’re at a social event, the likelihood of being offered other alcoholic drinks on top of the beer you have already drunk is quite high.

  • Not now, maybe later

Always be aware that beer is not a drink that can be taken at anytime. In certain situations it is better not to drink beer, such as before a business meeting. If offered a beer you can always say no, maybe later.

  • Have fun

Beer has been enjoyed throughout history by many cultures. It has strong associations with friendship, celebration and fun. Drinking responsibly means you can have fun and enjoy all the pleasures of beer while avoiding the dangers of misuse.

At Carlsberg we are clear on beer. We want you to be too!
