SEDEX is an online information exchange for businesses committed to continually improving the ethical performance of their supply chains. It focuses on four areas: labour standards, health & safety, environment and business integrity.

How does it work?

SEDEX enables member companies to more efficiently manage the ethical and responsible practices of their global supply chains through a software platform and a standard self-assessment questionnaire, which unifies the auditing process. The system provides risk assessments of suppliers based on the self-assessment questionnaire, which all suppliers must fill out when joining. This generates increased transparency through the provision of a secure, robust, and user-friendly information and data exchange.

In the event that the Carlsberg Group or another customer independently requests an audit of a supplier by an approved auditor, the Sedex database can also be used to store and share the audit information. The security controls built into the system enable the supplier to keep information confidential and share it only with the specific customers to whom they wish to give access.

Some of the key advantages of using Sedex include:

  • Reducing cost and time for suppliers
  • Reducing workload for our auditors
  • Easier gather of CSR data internally
  • Lowering auditing costs through collaborative approaches as the system enables sharing of audit reports with other companies on Sedex (e.g. Diageo, Unilever, Pepsico etc.)
  • Improving access to information and data management

The Carlsberg Group is currently evaluating the use of the SEDEX platform and will incorporate these findings as part of its revision of the Responsible Sourcing Programme
