The first environmental report from Carlsberg Breweries shows that environmental initiatives over the past two years have helped significantly reduce energy and water usage by breweries.

The report, which will be published tomorrow, shows that:

  • total consumption of energy fell significantly to 40.7kWh per hectolitre of beer brewed, from 45.8 kWh/hl between 1998/99 and 2000
  • Consumption of water per hectolitre of beer produced has fallen to 4.8hl/hl from 5.2 hl/hl
  • Emission of CO2 has fallen to 11.4 kg/hl from 12.8kg/hl

Breweries in the Group have been obliged to maintain strict standards since the announcement of the Group's environmental policy last year. They should also create their own detailed working plans and document that they are living up to their promises.

The breweries have reported the results of their environmental activity to corporate headquarters in Copenhagen and the first environmental report is the result.

Printed copies of the report can be ordered by e-mailing bonnie.brodersen@carlsberg.com
