The first brew has been completed at the new brewery built by Danbrew for the Al Ahram Beverages Company in Egypt.

The 1.1 million hectolitre brewery is the largest in the region and Al Ahram is planning to brew Carlsberg beer under supervision. Danbrew is 100% owned by Carlsberg and has built more than 50 breweries around the world.

"This brewery is absolutely state-of-the-art, built to the highest and most exacting standards," said master brewer Jens Erik Holmsgaard, who has been seconded from Danbrew.

Al Ahram is the market leader in Egypt and has been selling beer since 1897. At the moment, Carlsberg exported from Denmark is sold in duty-free outlets and hotels. Locally-produced Carlsberg, when it is available, will also be sold in licensed retail outlets.
