As of 1 July 2003 and for five years onwards, Ole Hindsgaul, 52 years old and Professor at the Department of Chemistry, University of Alberta, Canada, will be living in the Carlsberg Academy flat for scientists. He will be the first resident with a background in chemistry. Ole Hindsgaul has been nominated by the Carlsberg Foundation and the nomination has been approved by The Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters.
Professor Hindsgaul will be employed as distinguished visiting Professor at the Department of Chemistry at the Carlsberg Laboratory, where he to a large extent will contribute to strengthening the research into carbohydrate chemistry.
Ole Hindsgaul was born in Denmark, however, his family emigrated to Canada when he was three years old, and therefore his entire upbringing and scientific career has taken place in Canada and the USA.
In Canada, Professor Hindsgaul is responsible for a large and successful group of scientists. Furthermore, as adjunct senior staff scientist he is responsible for a group of four scientists at The Burnham Institute, La Jolla in California. Professor Hindsgaul has been awarded several international prizes for his scientific achievements and is a much-coveted lecturer and advisor.

On Monday 23 September, 2002 at 3 p.m., Professor Ole Hindsgaul will lecture on the subject of "Challenges at the Interface of Carbohydrate Chemistry and Glycobiology". The lecture takes place at the Carlsberg Laboratory and there is free public admittance.
