The Danish business newsletter Mandag Morgen has today published a long analysis of Carlsberg's future as an international player in the brewing industry. The article states that Carlsberg wants to spend DKr 20-30bn on acquisitions and is considering Belgian Interbrew and French Kronenbourg as possible partners.
Carlsberg wants to underline that there are no immediate plans or concrete contacts with these companies.
"It is our long-term perspective to continue to be among the world's largest brewers," said Carlsberg's president and chief executive officer, Flemming Lindeløv.
"This will happen through a combination of acquisitions and organic growth. However, we have no immediate plans. It would be wrong of us to leap out into larger acquisitions before the company is ready for it.
"To go from a company that has previously had many small businesses to one that has two large focus areas - beer and soft drinks - has to be carefully managed if we are to achieve success," he added.
