THE BREWER J.C. JACOBSEN PORTRAIT PRIZE

On 7 May the Museum of National History opens its doors for the third time for a special Nordic exhibition in which 129 selected works from the J.C. Jacobsen Portrait Competition interpret the portrait genre and its capabilities. Portræt Nu! [Portrait Now!] strongly proclaims that the art of portrait in the Nordic countries is innovative, ambitious and bears international comparison.

At the official opening the winner of the competition will be presented with the Brewer J.C. Jacobsen Portrait Prize of DKK 85,000, while the winner of the vote to find the public’s favourite portrait will be announced on the last day of the exhibition, 31 July 2011. The Brewer J.C. Jacobsen Portrait Competition is organised by the Museum of National History at Frederiksborg Castle and supported by the Carlsberg Bequest.

There will be special guided tours for families in the summer holidays as well as a children’s portrait competition.

PATRIOT AND CITIZEN OF THE WORLD – BREWER J.C. JACOBSEN 200 YEARS

J.C. Jacobsen played a crucial role in the rebuilding of Frederiksborg Castle after it was destroyed in the fire of 1859. The exhibition ‘Patriot and Citizen of the World – Brewer J.C. Jacobsen 200 Years’ focuses on the period from the fire at the castle until J.C. Jacobsen’s death in 1887. The exhibition sheds light on the international sources of inspiration for Brewer Jacobsen’s museum ideas and guides the visitor through the key rooms and their decoration – the result of his great vision.

The exhibition opens on 1 September, with free admission to mark the great man’s birthday on 2 September.
