THE AREA BETWEEN VARTOV AND THE ‘LURE PLAYERS’

‘The Lure Players’ sculpture was erected to mark the centenary of J.C. Jacobsen. That was 100 years ago this year, so the New Carlsberg Foundation has asked sculptor Hein Heinsen to submit proposals for a ‘Rostrum’ to be set up on the planned area between Vartov and ‘The Lure Players’. The intention is to commemorate the Brewer’s 200th anniversary with a new sculpture that will resonate both with J.C. Jacobsen’s social commitment and the original decoration of the square.

ROYAL DANISH ACADEMY OF SCIENCES AND LETTERS, H.C. ANDERSENS BOULEVARD

The Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters is inextricably linked with J.C. Jacobsen and the Carlsberg Foundation. 2011 will see the redecoration of the lecture hall on the first floor of the Academy.

Erik A. Frandsen is the artist behind a giant 6x4 metre picture mosaic, produced by Italian craftsmen in classical style. The mosaic shows ‘ordinary people’ in a contemporary setting and – in dialogue with the building’s numerous portraits of eminent scientists – will serve to depict science’s audience and the people who are the beneficiaries of scientific progress.

The gift also includes Erik A. Frandsen’s colour scheme for the entire hall.

CARLSBERG MUSEUM

The Carlsberg Museum originally housed the private art collection of J.C. Jacobsen’s son, Carl Jacobsen, which was one of the largest private collections in the world in the 19th century. Today the historical gallery serves as Carlsberg’s Business Centre for the Danish business community. The New Carlsberg Foundation is supporting decoration of a number of rooms, which combine to give the building a modern appearance. The decoration will be in the hands of artists including Peter Holst Henckel and Anne Marie Ploug, with the addition of works by Troels Wörsel, Per Bak Jensen, Malene Landgreen and Sophia Kalkau.
