Combining the best of German and Danish brewing to make a beer for royals

On the occasion of the official visit of the Danish Crown Prince Couple to Germany, Carlsberg hosted the Royal Couple at the Holsten Brewery in Hamburg and celebrated the strong brewing traditions of Germany and Denmark with a unique, limited edition Crown Craft beer. Made from Danish yeast, German barley malt and Australian hops the beer also contains a little part of HRH Crown Princess Mary’s home land of Australia. It is brewed at Carlsberg Germany’s historical brewery in the centre of Hamburg, where the Crown prince Couple will pay a visit as part of the official activities. To create this unique beer, Carlsberg pulled together great minds from the Holsten Brauwelt micro-brewery in Hamburg and the Jacobsen Brewhouse in Copenhagen in the form of master brewers Rüdiger Weck and Morten Ibsen. Their vision was to brew a smooth Vienna-style lager beer with sophisticated notes of fruits like gooseberry, grape fruit and passion fruit. This was achieved by using Australian Topaz hops added to the beer using the “dry hopping” method. Crown Craft is a testament to the craft of brewing that has been perfected in the Carlsberg Group since 1847. Crown Craft will have an ABV of 5.5% and will not be sold commercially. On 18 May, the Crown Craft was part of the official cooking event taking place in Hamburg with the Danish Crown Princess and the famous German and Danish chefs Jens Rittmeyer and Thorsten Schmidt. On 19 May, the Royal Couple visited Carlsberg’s brewery, Holsten, in central Hamburg. The couple was welcomed by the Carlsberg Germany CEO, Frank Massen.   Brewmaster Rüdiger Weck from Holsten Brewery, Hamburg. Brew master Morten Ibsen from Jacobsen Brewhouse, Copenhagen
