Together Towards ZERO is our ambitious sustainability programme, which aims to help us mitigate long-term risks, tackle global challenges such as climate change, water scarcity and public health issues, and make the most of opportunities to develop more sustainable products and healthier choices.
It sets out targets in four areas, and is aligned with the targets of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals where we can have the greatest impact. We partner with suppliers, NGOs and others in our industry to make progress Together Towards ZERO.
Here, we cover some of the highlights. For all the detail and data, including an index of how we contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals, see our annual Sustainability Report. Or for the highlights, see our Sustainability Summary.
Reducing our beer-in-hand carbon footprint means innovating across our packaging portfolio. And innovations are best achieved in partnership with other experts. The paper bottle company, Paboco, is helping us achieve breakthroughs in our Green Fibre Bottle project, developing the world’s first 100% bio-based beer bottle made from sustainably sourced wood fibres.
Developing a sustainable tomorrow can only happen together. In 2019 we announced an ambitious project at our Fredericia brewery, the result of public-private partnership with DRIP in Denmark. It will use innovative water recycling technology to reuse 90% of process water, providing learnings for our other wastewater treatments around the world.
When people go out, they want to enjoy a great beer with friends but sometimes they don’t want to feel the effect of alcohol, especially when they’re driving. At Carlsberg we’re working with partners to ensure that wherever consumers find our beers they can choose alcohol-free brews – even on tap.
The water recycling plant at Fredericia Brewery in Denmark shows that it is possible to dramatically cut the amount of water needed to produce our beer. Yesterday, the plant won the prestigious Global Water Awards as Industrial Project of the Year.
Carlsberg Group has been recognised for leadership in corporate sustainability by global environmental non-profit CDP, securing a place on its prestigious ‘A List’ for tackling climate change, as well as acting to protect water security.
