The trial, which created 1 million green Carlsberg bottles, used 100% biofuel and increased recycled content of to 100%, while maintaining quality.
Glass bottles account for around 10% of the total beer-in-hand emissions (the full value chain) for Carlsberg Marston’s Brewing Company in the UK. By demonstrating the possibility to cut the footprint of each bottle by up to 90%, this trial has huge potential to support our target to cut emissions across our value chain as part of our Together Towards ZERO programme. And it could even transform the bottle from the highest-carbon-impact packaging type to the lowest.
We’re constantly trying to make everything about our beers even better. Snap Pack is one of the results. A world-first for the beer industry, this innovation took us three years to develop together with our partners.
GreenKayak is an environmental NGO that engages volunteers in the fight against environmental pollution while kayaking. We have proudly sponsored fleets in three countries since 2018.
Reducing our beer-in-hand carbon footprint means innovating across our packaging portfolio. And innovations are best achieved in partnership with other experts. The paper bottle company, Paboco, is helping us achieve breakthroughs in our Fibre Bottle project, developing the world’s first 100% bio-based beer bottle made from sustainably sourced wood fibres.
